NDIS Supported Independent Living (SIL)

Supported Independent Living (SIL) is designed to help people with disability live more independently while receiving the day-to-day support they need at home.

SIL funding through the NDIS covers the cost of support workers who assist with daily tasks such as:

  • Personal care (showering, dressing, grooming)
  • Household tasks (cooking, cleaning, laundry)
  • Developing life skills (budgeting, meal planning, routines)
  • Community access and social participation

SIL is most often provided in a shared home environment, where people with similar support needs live together with 24/7 assistance available. It’s important to note that SIL funding does not cover rent, groceries, utilities, or transport costs; these remain the responsibility of the participant.
